Position: Managing Director of Growth - Company Retirement Plans

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and results‑oriented Managing Director (MD) of Growth – Company Retirement Plans (for our Open Plan/Retirement Plan Advisory team), who will lead the next phase of expansion for our Retirement Plan Advisory (RPA) business. This individual will be a player‑coach, responsible for driving net new client acquisition, deepening strategic partnerships, and building scalable growth teams / engines that position the firm as a market leader in retirement‑plan advisory services.

This is a leadership role for a growth‑minded person who thrives at the intersection of strategy, business development, and execution. The MD will partner closely with the Managing Director of Practice Management, the General Manager and other leadership to drive revenue, optimize operations, and position Open Plan as a category‑leading offering.

Key Responsibilities Growth Strategy & Execution
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy for the Retirement Plan Advisory business
  • Identify target markets, client segments, and priority growth channels
  • Establish measurable goals and KPIs aligned with firm‑wide growth objectives
  • Continuously refine go‑to‑market strategies based on performance insights and market trends
Business Development
  • Lead direct business development efforts, including sourcing and closing new retirement plan clients
  • Cultivate relationships with key centers of influence (e.g., CPAs, attorneys, recordkeepers, consultants)
  • Partner with senior advisors to drive pipeline development and win rates
  • Represent the firm in industry events, conferences, and thought‑leadership forums
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing growth and business development team
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, advisory and client service teams to achieve cross‑functional alignment
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and client‑centricity
Marketing & Brand Positioning
  • Partner with marketing to develop targeted campaigns and content strategies
  • Strengthen the firm’s brand presence in the retirement‑plan advisory space
  • Leverage digital and data‑driven marketing approaches to accelerate growth
Data & Performance Management
  • Implement and oversee CRM and pipeline management best practices
  • Analyze growth metrics and sales performance to inform decision‑making
  • Report regularly to executive leadership on progress, opportunities, and challenges
Travel
  • Travel up to 25% may be required
Your Experience
  • 7+ years of experience in business development, growth strategy, or leadership roles within retirement plan advisory, institutional consulting, or related services to target clients
  • Proven track record of driving significant revenue growth and closing business
  • Deep understanding of B2B sales
  • Preferred expertise in retirement plan landscape (e.g., 401(k), fiduciary advisory, plan design, vendor ecosystem)
  • Strong leadership and team‑building capabilities
  • Exceptional communication, relationship‑building, and influencing skills
  • Strategic thinker with a hands‑on, execution‑oriented mindset
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, JD or other Graduate Degree preferred
  • This role is an in‑office, full‑time, and exempt position. We are a work‑from‑office culture with a lot of flexibility.

Compensation
  • $150K – $350K+ (base salary + variable compensation based on revenue growth)
  • Profit share: Additional opportunities for discretionary year‑end profit sharing
  • Equity: Restricted Equity Units granted at hire, and an expedited opportunity to convert to Partner status at vest
