The Job:

As an essential public servant and a Juvenile Detention Supervisor, you are in a position of trust within both the department and the community; you have an inherent duty to uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

This management level position is responsible for the supervision of Juvenile Detention staff, programs, and administrative duties. The incumbent will help direct and coordinate the work or (25) twenty-five detention offices and (5) five detention lead workers. Supervisory responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing shift and work assignments; meeting with staff to identify issues and facilitate problem solving; monitoring workflow;

and evaluating and improving work practices and procedures. Additional duties include assisting in the selection, training, motivation, and evaluation of Juvenile Services personnel; providing or coordinating ongoing staff training; working with employees to correct performance deficiencies; implementing discipline and assisting in termination procedures.

Other responsibilities include working closely with the Clark County Jail, Food Services, Laundry Services, Educational Services #112, Well Path (contracted medical provider), and other outside agencies or providers serving program youth. Duties also involve identifying resource needs; participating in the development and administration of the Juvenile Court budget; providing staff assistance to the Juvenile Detention Manager; conducting special projects; and preparing and presenting staff reports and other necessary correspondence.

Work requires independent judgment and action.

The supervisor becomes part of detention management team and as such works to ensure that the principles of balanced and restorative justice, adolescent brain development, and trauma informed care are incorporated into the work practices. The Juvenile Detention Supervisor participates in the evaluation, development, and implementation of Juvenile Services’ goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; and recommends and implements appropriate changes to these policies and procedures.

This position reports to the Juvenile Detention Manager. This position is exempt and non-represented.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, sociology, behavioral science, or a related field is preferred. The degree must have been conferred by an institution of higher education and have National Recognition of Accrediting Agencies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.

Four (4) years of professional experience working with at risk youth. A strong desire to work with high risk/high needs youth.

The ideal candidate will have the following strengths:

Ability to plan, organize, and manage the programs, services, and activities of the Detention Center.

Ability to develop and implement new elements of the Detention Program.

Ability to define or assist in defining program goals and objectives; establish methods and means of accomplishing program objectives; implement policies and procedures; develop or assist in developing program budget.

Ability to Prepare reports on program performance, needs, services information, and contribute to and insure the evaluation of program performance.
