The Executive Director of Elementary Schools will create specific conditions to actualize the Seattle Public Schools Strategic Plan and focus on the elimination of systemic opportunity gaps through inclusive services. The Executive Director is a member of the Executive Director of Schools Team, reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and supports district and building school improvement efforts including the building Comprehensive School Plans (C‑SIP).

Functions
  • School Improvement (40%)
    • Effectively partners with and supervises elementary school principals and other staff to improve student outcomes.
    • Supports principals to develop, implement, monitor and adjust Comprehensive School Improvement Plans (C‑SIP) focused on instructional leadership and inclusive practices.
    • Provides results‑focused professional learning and collaboration.
    • Uses data‑driven decisions and disaggregated data at the table.
    • Builds strong partnerships with families and community through authentic engagement.
    • Provides recommendations for elementary school principal and assistant principal hires to the Superintendent.
    • Assists principals with federal and state law interpretation, staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and operational needs.
  • Accountability (20%)
    • Ensures principals and schools follow district policy and meet expectations.
    • Monitors, evaluates and reports on the performance of assigned personnel.
    • Oversees implementation of curriculum, professional development, evaluation and student assessment.
    • Interview and selects employees and supports personnel actions.
    • Assists with the development and monitoring of corrective actions.
  • Central Office Leadership (15%)
    • Leads central office groups supporting building principals on safety, health and learning environments.
    • Informs policy and shapes procedures; analyzes school needs; facilitates coordination across central office departments.
    • Collaborates with the Superintendent, Student Services, Teaching and Learning, Human Resources to improve instruction district wide.
    • Provides recommendations and support for major instructional strategies and their evaluation.
    • Aligns work with other Executive Directors and models strategic plan values.
    • Trains principals to meet goals, plans professional development, and assists with budget preparation.
    • Interprets district policies and assists with personnel management.
  • Elementary School Principal Leadership Development (10%)
    • Works with principals to improve their performance by coaching, mentoring, and building learning networks.
    • Ensures central office supports principals' needs, budgets, equity analysis and expenditure authorization.
  • District and School Engagement (10%)
    • Represents the Superintendent on internal and community boards and committees.
    • Attends or chairs meetings, and collaborates with city, county, and human service agencies.
    • Partners with higher education, business, and law enforcement agencies to meet district goals.
    • Assists in resolving student issues related to placement, discipline, complaints and investigations.
  • Academics (5%)
    • Provides central office leadership for elementary schools and acts as the primary liaison with the Curriculum and Instruction department for third‑grade ELA proficiency initiatives.
