The Sr. Manager of Safety & Compliance leads a team of safety professionals at Specialized Pavement Marking (SPM). This role will oversee and build DOT and safety compliance programs across fleet, drivers, yards, and field operations. This role oversees compliance with FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state requirements, and serves as the lead for all incident responses, accident investigations, root‑cause analysis, corrective action planning, and audit readiness.
The role partners closely with operations, HR, and leadership to reduce risk, strengthen accountability, and build a proactive safety culture across all SPM locations.
- Investigate complex accidents, repeat safety events, citations, and violations; identify contributing factors and drive timely corrective and preventive actions with operations leadership.
- Lead response to serious injuries, vehicle accidents, near misses, and other high‑risk events, including evidence preservation, witness interviews, fact gathering, reporting, and follow‑up.
- Investigate all accidents, citations, repeat safety events, and violations; identify root causes and implement timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver training for drivers, supervisors, and field employees on DOT compliance, safe work practices, incident reporting, equipment inspections, and regulatory changes; support driver onboarding, road tests, and remedial coaching as needed.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, auditors, inspectors, insurance partners, and law enforcement on safety, DOT, and serious incident matters.
- Maintain a visible field and facility safety presence through regular site visits, ride‑alongs, and incident follow‑up; partner with managers to close compliance gaps and reinforce accountability.
- Develop, implement, and maintain company‑wide DOT and safety compliance and related training programs covering driver qualification files, medical certification compliance, hours of service, drug and alcohol/Clearinghouse requirements, vehicle inspection and maintenance records, and field safety documentation.
- Monitor FMCSA, OSHA, state DOT, and related safety regulations; update policies, SOPs, forms, and field practices to maintain compliance.
- Oversight for driver qualification processes, including CDL and CLP license status, MVR monitoring, medical certification verification, and related compliance records.
- Validate driver pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection compliance and maintain accurate driver and fleet compliance.
- Conduct job safety analyses and task‑based hazard assessments for field operations.
- Maintain CAL / OSHA recordkeeping, including OSHA 300 logs, training records, and related safety documentation.
- Staying current with regulatory changes in the following states: OR, WA, CA, NV, AK, & HI.
- Support behavior‑based safety initiatives, toolbox talks, and regular departmental and jobsite inspections.
- Track CSA(compliance, safety, accountability) trends, inspection outcomes, incident rates, training completion, and corrective actions; report findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Use telematics, dashcams, and related safety technology to identify high‑risk driving behaviors, support coaching, and document follow‑up actions.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in construction safety, transportation safety, DOT compliance fleet safety, or a closely related compliance leadership role. (CA specific compliance strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated experience investigating vehicle accidents, injuries, and other complex incidents, including documentation, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action management.
- Experience managing driver qualification files, hours‑of‑service compliance, inspection records, safety audits, and regulatory interactions in a multi‑site environment, including OSHA visits.
- Construction, roadway, heavy civil, or field operations experience strongly preferred.
