R&D Tax Manager

Overview

• Provide strategic R&D tax credits consulting services to middle‑market clients, including managing R&D tax credit and deduction studies, conducting client interviews, reviewing client data, and developing industry‑specific tools and templates.
• Research and draft technical memoranda related to R&D matters.
• Provide audit defense assistance for clients audited by the IRS or state taxing authorities.
• Develop a deep understanding of client businesses and become a functional expert in the R&D tax credit area.
• Manage client engagement staffing, billing/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met.
• Build strong relationships internally and externally with clients, associates, and the broader community.
• Invest in professional development, both individually and by participating in firm‑wide learning programs, and support team growth through the Baker Tilly Care & Teach philosophy.

• 4‑year degree; license eligible required.
• Masters or advanced degree preferred.
• CPA, Enrolled Agent, or CMI‑PE certification required.
• Five (5)+ years of R&D work experience.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates desired.
• Ability to lead and supervise others, deliver exceptional client service, and maintain continuous learning and ethical standards.

The national pay rate range is $100,340 to $190,240; in California the range is $111,490 to $190,240. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

Job location:

must be tied to a Baker Tilly office location; highly preferred Seattle, WA but other West Coast locations are acceptable.
