Job Description

The Bill Holm Center has an outstanding opportunity for Part Time Program Assistant to join their team.

The Bill Holm Center is a research center for the study of Native arts of the Northwest at the Burke Museum. Through research, public outreach, online resources, and publications the Center supports artists and communities connecting with their cultural heritage, promotes research and publications on Northwest Native art, facilitates access to cultural resources at the University of Washington, and fosters appreciation and understanding of Native arts and cultures of the Pacific Northwest.

In addition, the Bill Holm Center’s Connection to Culture program grant funds artist and researcher travel to the Burke Museum to study the Northwest Coast and Plateau collections.

Job Summary

The Program Assistant for the Bill Holm Center for the Study of Northwest Native Art (BHC) at the Burke Museum will assist the BHC Program Manager with the planning and implementation of BHC programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the day-to-day organization and administration of BHC programmatic materials. This includes gathering, collating, and filing of pertinent programmatic documents, evaluations, images, videos, and emails, as well as preparation of weekly meeting agenda. (40%)
  • Conception, development, and management of social media content across multiple social media/marketing channels (15%)
  • Visit Duties including (25%)
  • Assisting the Program Manager with the facilitation of collection research visits
  • Managing and responding to communication between the BHC and grantees, advisory board members, the general public, and fellow Burke staff
  • Assisting the Program Manager in coordinating grant recipient travel arrangements, reimbursements, and award payments.
  • Participating in offsite outreach activities including but not limited to attending relevant exhibits, conferences, community events and gatherings, etc.
  • Assisting in the preparation and implementation of BHC Connections to Culture grant programming. This includes but is not limited to creating object lists through the collection database, retrieval and re-shelving of collections, and distributing grant evaluations. (10%)
  • Perform related assigned duties as required (10%)
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent (Other education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications)
  • Two years of clerical experience
  • Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.
Additional Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Coursework, experience, or degree in collections handling, care, and management
  • Knowledge of, connections to, experience working with, and respect for the history and cultures of Native groups with an emphasis on Northwest Coast and Plateau region
  • Experience with utilizing Microsoft software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Working Conditions
  • Able to work a flexible schedule that involves occasional work on weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Able to work in an environment visible to the public with visual and auditory distractions
  • Able to assist with the occasional handling and moving of collections up to 20 lbs.
  • Able to occasionally safely ascend/descend, balance, and work at heights up to 30 feet upon a ladder or lift
  • Able to obtain satisfactory results from a criminal background check
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum: $21.77 hourly

Pay Range Maximum: $26.31 hourly
