The part‑time Project Manager I (PM I) is responsible for the research and operational management of the Fredricks Lab, Microbiome Research Initiative (MRI), and other major research initiatives. The position works with faculty, scientific staff, research and administrative staff involved with these key research projects/programs and laboratory operations under the supervision of the Infectious Disease Sciences (IDS) faculty member.

The incumbent reports to a Professor within the Infectious Disease Sciences (IDS) Program and works independently to manage all aspects of study and project operations. This includes defining project scope, goals, deliverables, success criteria, and overseeing multiple concurrent scientific projects.

The Project Manager I (PM I) effectively prioritizes competing initiatives, manages multiple work streams, and assesses situations to make sound, timely decisions using strong project management skills and business acumen. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring projects meet timeline, budget, scope, and quality objectives, and that appropriate project management methodologies are applied.

This role requires a high level of effective communication and collaboration with research program leadership, external organizations (e.g., NIH), internal and external working groups, vendors, and consortium partners (e.g., University of Washington), as well as IDS/VIDD and various Center departments.

• Work closely with Faculty and Research Director(s) to implement research team directives and serve as a liaison to internal and external entities. Partner with the PI to set research program's strategic goals, develop specific scientific/operational plans to achieve those goals and lead/manage the execution of those plans.
• Manage multiple research projects (e.g., Microbiome Research Initiative (MRI) Microbiome repository) in conjunction with PI and, as applicable IDS administrative staff, set project goals and milestones and work with investigators to maintain a realistic timeline and support budget needs as the project matures.
• Manage and organize meetings including the Microbiome Working Group, research round tables, monthly seminar series, and large scientific symposia, developing meeting agendas and minutes, monitoring activities to ensure objectives have been met within designated timeframe, and coordinating follow‑up activities.
• Develop, employ and manage all internal and external communication tools for the research team(s), including web-based videoconferencing, network data sharing, and sites for hosting computational tools.
