The Production Manager is responsible for leading daily plastics manufacturing operations through active, hands‑on management of production supervisors and plant operations. This role is expected to maintain a strong presence on the production floor, provide direct coaching and accountability to supervisors, respond to issues in real time, and ensure extrusion production is carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality, throughput, scrap, downtime, and schedule requirements.

Written communication and reporting support the role, but effective in‑person leadership, follow‑up, and operational visibility are essential expectations of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead daily PVC extrusion operations to meet safety, quality, productivity, scrap, labor, downtime, and schedule expectations.
  • Maintain a regular and visible presence on the production floor to monitor operations, line performance, staffing, and workflow.
  • Provide direct, in‑person leadership to production supervisors, including coaching, instruction, follow‑up, and accountability.
  • Address operational issues in real time rather than relying primarily on email or indirect communication.
  • Ensure supervisors are effectively managing employees, extrusion line performance, housekeeping, safety expectations, shift execution, and production priorities.
  • Monitor extrusion line performance, changeovers, downtime, staffing, and production flow to support efficient operations and consistent output.
  • Set clear expectations for supervisors and hold them accountable for results, communication, urgency, and execution.
Supervisor Management and Employee Leadership
  • Manage, coach, and develop production supervisors to improve leadership effectiveness and department performance.
  • Conduct regular face‑to‑face communication with supervisors regarding priorities, expectations, problems, and performance.
  • Follow up on issues, assignments, and corrective actions to ensure completion and sustained improvement.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of production personnel.
  • Address employee and supervisor concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Support corrective action, performance coaching, and disciplinary processes as needed in accordance with company policy.
Safety, Quality, and Operational Performance
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety rules, policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Reinforce safe work practices through active observation, coaching, and accountability on the floor.
  • Work closely with supervisors, quality, and maintenance to address extrusion process issues, equipment concerns, scrap, and quality defects.
  • Review quality issues, scrap, rework, downtime, and process concerns with supervisors and drive corrective action.
  • Monitor staffing, labor utilization, output, uptime, downtime, and other key operational indicators and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Help establish department goals, track progress, and communicate expectations and results.
Planning and Coordination
  • Plan staffing and workflow to meet customer needs and achieve efficient extrusion operations.
  • Review labor needs, production requirements, and machine capacity regularly and make recommendations for adjustments.
  • Support budgeting for labor and operating supplies.
  • Coordinate with other departments to accomplish plant goals and maintain smooth operations.
  • Assist with inventory-related activities as needed.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve production efficiency, supervisor effectiveness, communication, quality, workflow, and extrusion line performance.
  • Drive improvement in throughput, scrap reduction, uptime, changeover execution, and consistency across extrusion operations.
  • Review policies, procedures, and operational practices with supervisors to ensure consistency and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, urgency, and follow‑through throughout the production team.
Other Responsibilities
