Job OverviewAn Assembly Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a manufacturing assembly area to ensure products are built safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. The role coordinates people, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules while minimizing downtime and waste. The Assembly Manager supervises and supports production staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams such as quality, maintenance and supply chain.
Day‑to‑DayOperations
Oversee daily assembly line operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are met. Monitor workflow, equipment performance, and material availability to minimize downtime. Coordinate with supply chain and maintenance teams to resolve production issues quickly. Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and continuous improvement practices (e.g., Lean manufacturing). Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, efficiency, scrap rates, and on‑time delivery.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized production floor.
Supervise, train, and mentor assembly line supervisors and production staff. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support employee development. Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and shift assignments to meet production demands. Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and safety. Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and enforce company policies. Lead onboarding and ongoing training programs for new and existing employees.
ProductionMeetings
Lead daily production meetings to review targets, performance and operational challenges. Communicate production goals, schedule changes and priorities to team leads and staff. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (quality, engineering, supply chain) to address issues and improve processes. Review production data and identify opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction. Report on production performance and issues to senior management and facilitate problem‑solving discussions to drive action plans from meeting outcomes.
Skills and Abilities- Leadership and team management, with the ability to motivate and develop production staff
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple production activities simultaneously
- Problem‑solving skills with a focus on root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with teams and leading production meetings
- Knowledge of safety standards and ability to enforce a safe work environment
- Experience with performance metrics (KPIs) and data‑driven decision‑making
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues and minimise downtime
- Organisational skills and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or other process improvement methods
- Conflict resolution and employee relations skills
- Basic computer skills (ERP systems, spreadsheets, production tracking software)
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing production demands and priorities
- Strong time‑management and decision‑making abilities
- Familiar with ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 requirements
- ERP (SAP, EPICOR) system experience
FLSA Exempt:
Between $95,000–$115,000.
