Pipe Department Welder Journeyman

Vigor Marine Group is an established partner in marine maintenance and modernization. This position is a TIG Welder (CuNi/SS) on a federally contracted shipyard.

• Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures, consistently exceeding Journey Level standards.
• Works in the shop as a positive addition to the workforce, applying shipboard skills.
• Interprets ship specifications, work orders and applicable working drawings and blueprints to perform form, shape, fit, and weld on vessels.
• Researches and suggests solutions to conditions requiring comprehensive condition found reports (CFRs); remains conversant in all quality assurance requirements.
• Performs TIG welding on Carbon, Stainless, and CuNi piping.
• Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools.
• Coordinates the performance and completion of job specifications.
• Demonstrates ability to perform basic shipboard layout.
• Installs new and/or performs repairs to ships piping.
• Prepares surfaces by grinding and chipping.
• Comprehends and understands marine architectural blueprints.
• Tacks and weld pipe hangers and piping.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

• Frequent interaction with others to ensure ongoing safety of operation; may work in confined spaces.
• Works alongside other crew members; rarely performs work alone.
• No supervisory duties.
• Routine repetitive tasks; work is similar day-to-day.
• High attention to detail required to meet regulatory agency standards.
• Must be willing to move between jobs and respond to unexpected assignments.
• Work in noise, heights, and confined spaces.
