Job Title: CNC Machinist/Programmer

Pay: $28-47/hour, D.O.E.

Job Description

This full-time CNC Machinist role focuses on producing precision machined components for UAV applications, with an emphasis on close-tolerance parts, assemblies, prototyping, and production runs. You plan and lay out work, set up and operate various CNC mills and lathes, and ensure all parts meet tight tolerances of +/- .001 using precision measuring tools such as height gauges, calipers, and micrometers.

You use your advanced machining knowledge and problem-solving skills to maintain quality and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed plans of action to manufacture parts according to drawing specifications.
  • Read and understand production process work instructions and engineering drawings to gain a thorough understanding of part and process requirements.
  • Interpret GD&T on drawings to ensure parts meet all dimensional and geometric specifications.
  • Set up and operate various CNC mills and lathes, including preparing machines for close-tolerance machining.
  • Set up all required tools, fixtures, and work holding for each step of the manufacturing process.
  • Configure CNC machining programs and parameters, including feeds and speeds, to achieve optimal cutting performance.
  • Monitor the production process continuously, think critically, and adjust machining parameters or setups when problems arise.
  • Measure parts throughout the manufacturing process and make adjustments as needed to ensure compliance with process documentation and drawings.
  • Inspect finished parts against drawings and specifications using precision measuring tools to verify tolerances of +/- .001.
  • Use precision instruments such as height gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools to confirm part quality.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of CNC machine tools, tooling, speeds, and feeds to improve efficiency and maintain high-quality output.
  • Mitigate risk and solve manufacturing problems by thinking creatively and proposing alternative methods when necessary.
  • Work with limited supervision while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the machine shop.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and share expertise to support continuous improvement in machining processes.
Essential Skills

  • Advanced experience with CNC machining, including set up and operation of mills and lathes.
  • Extensive knowledge of CNC machine tools and machining processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of machine shop tooling, including appropriate speeds and feeds for different materials and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T on drawings and apply it to machining and inspection processes.
  • Excellent machine shop math skills, including the ability to calculate proper feeds and speeds.
  • Ability to perform job requirements with limited supervision.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with large, complex fabrication projects.
  • Hands‑on experience with CNC machining set up and operation in close‑tolerance environments.
  • Proficiency with GD&T and its application to inspection and machining.
  • Familiarity with G&M code programming for CNC machines.
  • Experience with VF2 and VF3 milling centers.
  • Exposure to or experience with Solid Works for understanding models and drawings.
  • Moldmaking or similar precision machining disciplines.
  • Experience operating CNC lathes and manual mills.
  • Ability to think outside the box to mitigate risk and solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and skill development.
