This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our Pumps Manufacturing Engineering team at Blue Origin. This role will lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for internally fabricated pumps critical to lunar missions and space exploration systems. The ideal candidate will bridge design engineering and production operations by translating pump design requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes while providing ongoing technical support to production teams.

You will drive design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives, develop manufacturing documentation, and ensure production readiness for complex pump assemblies used in Lunar vehicles. This position requires deep technical expertise in pump manufacturing combined with strong operational support capabilities to enable reliable, high-quality production.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Development :
Lead industrialization of pump designs from development through production readiness, creating manufacturing processes for pump components, assemblies, and testing procedures

Manufacturing Documentation :
Develop detailed work instructions, process flows, tooling specifications, and inspection plans specific to pump fabrication and assembly operations

Design for Manufacturability :
Collaborate with design engineering to optimize pump designs for manufacturing feasibility, cost, and quality during design reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR)
Production Support :
Provide technical troubleshooting and process optimization support to production teams, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for pump manufacturing issues

Tooling & Equipment :
Design and specify manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and assembly equipment required for pump production operations

Process Validation :
Conduct process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation activities for new pump manufacturing lines and equipment

Continuous Improvement :
Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency gains, and quality enhancements in pump manufacturing processes

Technology Implementation :
Evaluate and deploy new manufacturing technologies (precision machining, additive manufacturing, automated assembly) for pump production applications

Quality & Compliance :
Ensure all pump manufacturing processes meet aerospace quality standards (AS9100) and Blue Origin requirements

Cross-functional Collaboration :
Work closely with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams to support pump production schedules and resolve manufacturing challenges

Team Focus & Domain Expertise The Pumps Manufacturing Engineering team is responsible for enabling the production of critical fluid handling systems that support lunar operations and space exploration missions. Our pumps are essential components that provide reliable fluid management for crew safety and mission success. We work at the intersection of advanced pump design and manufacturing excellence, ensuring that complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems can be produced reliably and cost-effectively.
