JobPurpose
The Director of Marketing and Business Development is responsible for developing, executing, and measuring marketing and business development strategies that drive sustainable firm growth. This role focuses on increasing visibility, strengthening client and referral relationships, and ensuring marketing and business development efforts result in measurable return on investment.
The Director partners closely with firm leadership and attorneys, providing structure, coaching, and tools that make business development achievable and effective within a billable-hour environment.
Responsibilities- Lead the firm’s marketing and business development function, including internal resources and external vendors.
- Establish priorities, workflows, and accountability for marketing and business development activities.
- Build strong working relationships with attorneys, practice leaders, and firm leadership.
- Manage our Marketing & Library Assistant.
- Partner with firm leadership to identify growth priorities by industry, technology, and client type.
- Support attorneys in targeted business development efforts, including conferences, RFPs, and client-specific opportunities.
- Identify opportunities based on Chambers feedback, market developments, regulatory changes, and competitive intelligence.
- Oversee public relations efforts, including media outreach, rankings, and thought leadership.
- Manage marketing communications and operations, including website content, social media strategy, proposals, and design standards.
- Lead planning and execution of marketing campaigns and events, with a focus on measurable outcomes.
- Maintain and analyze firm experience data by technology, industry, and client type.
- Ensure consistent attorney follow-up through templates, tools, and easy-to-use processes.
- Coach attorneys on client development, referrals, follow-up, and effective messaging.
- Develop and own CRM strategy, including experience tracking, opportunity tracking, and ROI measurement.
- Measure effectiveness of marketing and business development initiatives, with an expectation of generating high return on investment.
- Track billable and collection trends related to marketing and business development activity.
- Manage marketing and business development budgets and identify opportunities for vendor cost savings.
- Experience in legal marketing and business development.
- Strong understanding of the legal market and the billable-hour environment.
- Experience using CRM systems to track experience and ROI.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate activity into results.
- Experience in a law firm environment with the ability to scale strategies appropriately.
- Demonstrated success coaching and influencing attorneys.
- Familiarity with intellectual property practices or technology-driven industries.
- Experience reducing reliance on external marketing vendors while improving effectiveness.
- Ability to work in an office environment with extended periods of computer use.
- Ability to attend firm events and conferences as required.
The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000, depending on experience, with eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
