University Marketing & Communications has an exciting opening for a Digital Marketing Automation Specialist. This is a full-time permanent position.
The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist is integral to the University's digital strategy team, responsible for amplifying the University of Washington's messaging by sending highly visible email communications and marketing. In support of University Advancement's fundraising campaign priorities, this role will develop, analyze and consult on marketing automation campaigns to build and deepen relationships with UW constituents and elevate the UW's reputation as a world-class public research university.
What You Will Do
Email Campaign Implementation (35%)
- Assist the digital automation team in the implementation of marketing campaigns, including email production, audience management, quality assurance testing, analysis of email performance, processing feedback and accurate deployment of messages.
- Develop automation marketing strategies and plans that help achieve stakeholder business objectives.
- Ensure quality control (e.g., proofing, fact-checking, list management) on all UMAC-generated email campaigns and provide quality control assistance to other departments as needed.
Strategy Development (30%)
- Employ best practices and strategies for all marketing and email automation projects.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner regarding the UW's use of marketing automation.
- Educate colleagues about email and marketing automation by developing content, including presentations, on best practices.
Customer Support (20%)
- Triage and address incoming requests for email marketing troubleshooting and best practices support utilizing a support ticket system.
- Actively participate in online communities (e.g., Microsoft Teams) with email marketing tool users across the UW to share best practices and troubleshoot issues.
Data Analytics (10%)
- Regularly analyze, interpret and report on email performance and make recommendations for performance-improving adjustments to strategy and execution.
- Continuously measure and optimize email campaign performance, establish benchmarks and recommend A/B testing.
Other Duties (5%)
- Apply organizational and project management skills to help with the rollout and adoption of new marketing automation features.
- Actively participate in marketing automation governance by supporting campaign standards, data quality and stewardship, approval workflows, regulatory compliance, and adherence to email marketing best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field AND three years of experience in digital marketing and/or communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with marketing automation software.
- Demonstrated experience with A/B testing and performance analysis, including translating results into actionable insights for stakeholders.
- Proven experience with quality assurance review processes and exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work with HTML and troubleshoot code-related problems.
- Experience executing digital fundraising appeals.
- Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.
