Dev & Imperative

The Decline of Connection Is the Defining Challenge of Our Time

Loneliness, distrust, and social fragmentation are rising across society. At the same time, volunteering—once one of our most powerful tools for building civic trust and connection—is faltering. As service becomes more virtual, episodic, and transactional, we risk losing one of the most human-centered paths to community.

At the U.S. Chamber of Connection, we’re working to reverse this trend.

Our founder, Aaron Hurst, redefined corporate volunteering 25 years ago by launching the Taproot Foundation and catalyzing the $15B pro bono service movement. Now, we’re doing it again—this time focused on reimagining service to prioritize human connection at every level.

About the Role

The U.S. Chamber of Connection is an early-stage nonprofit 501(c)(3) startup. We’re building a national movement from the ground up. This role requires someone who’s been in that kind of environment—who knows how to thrive amid ambiguity, prototype quickly, and take full ownership from day one.

We’re hiring a Volunteering Reconnected Program Manager to lead our national initiative to reinvent volunteering around connection—with a focus on driving deep implementation through our anchor partnership with Goodera, the world’s largest corporate volunteering platform.

This is a rare opportunity to help develop and scale a new model of service across employers, nonprofits, and civic leaders—with early pilots already underway and strong momentum across the field.

You’ll work directly with our founder, the Goodera team, and leaders across HR and service sectors to:

  • Enable partners to roll out connection-centered volunteering experiences with real impact
  • Train and support facilitators to deliver relational experiences that foster belonging and purpose
  • Coordinate pilots and activations in Seattle and other key markets
  • Design systems and processes to support scale
  • Support our annual summit of volunteering and HR leaders
  • Contribute to the strategy for transforming the field and embedding connection in service

While your focus will be program execution, partner support, and operations, you’ll also collaborate closely with leadership to refine and grow the national model. You’ll play a critical role in supporting enterprise engagement, helping large employers adopt connection-based volunteering through persuasive storytelling, co-design, and structured learning cycles.

Who You Are

  • You have hands-on experience at an early-stage startup—you know how to operate without a playbook, move fast, and build from zero with limited resources
  • A builder and doer—someone who thrives in high-growth environments
  • Experienced working with startups, large organizations, and executive stakeholders
  • Adept at coordinating across diverse teams and ensuring follow-through
  • Highly agile, creative, and resourceful—able to design and adapt quickly
  • A subject-matter expert in human capital, employee experience, or organizational culture
  • Confident working in a sales-adjacent role, supporting partner activation and buy-in across complex organizations
  • Relationship-first—skilled at quickly building rapport, trust, and credibility across varied stakeholders
  • Personally engaged in volunteering or civic service—you understand the opportunity and challenges from the inside
  • Passionate about our mission and grounded in connection-centered values

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Volunteering Reconnected initiative, with Goodera as a key partner
  • Deliver and evolve pilot programs, especially in Seattle and select partner sites
  • Train and support volunteer hosts to lead meaningful, relational experiences
  • Serve as sales and implementation support, helping large employers adopt the model and align it with their goals
  • Coordinate across companies, nonprofits, and facilitators to ensure success
  • Track impact and capture learning to refine models, content, and processes
  • Support national field-building through summit planning and cross-sector engagement
