Job Summary

The Policy and Community Engagement Manager advances Neighborhood House’s strategic goal of disrupting systems that keep people in poverty. This role will work collaboratively with the Neighborhood House leadership, Relationships, Education, Advocacy, Access, and Leadership (REAAL) board advocacy committee, Communications Manager, NH staff, and clients to advance priority issues to policymakers.

Working in close collaboration with NH staff and community partners, the Policy and Community Engagement Manager supports client and staff participation in community education and leadership development activities. This role reports to the Executive Director and facilitates participation in advocacy activities such as legislative visits, public testimony, coalition efforts, and advocacy campaigns.

Responsibilities Policy Analysis and Legislative Strategy (35%)
  • In collaboration with NH leadership, coalitions, clients, and REAAL, develop a compelling local, state, and federal legislative agenda aligned with NH mission and values.
  • Develop subject matter expertise of local, state and federal policies, proposed legislation, regulations, and investments/cuts impacting Neighborhood House funding, operations, and communities served.
  • Develop and implement effective public policy and communications strategies to garner support for Neighborhood House’s desired outcome.
  • Provide support to the REAAL Committee of the board.
Community Engagement and Relationships (20%)
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with clients and community stakeholders across Neighborhood House programs through one-on-one conversations, parent meetings, listening sessions, support groups, training, and community meetings.
  • Develop relationships with elected officials that represent areas served by Neighborhood House or hold key positions that connect to our services and mission.
  • Represent Neighborhood House in community meetings and policy convenings as needed.
Leadership, Development, and Authentic Voice (20%)
  • Identify, recruit, and support clients and staff interested in leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Support staff, client, and community participation in advocacy activities, including Advocacy Days, legislative visits, public testimony, emails, and calls to policymakers.
Communications (15%)
  • Collect, curate, and elevate client stories that demonstrate the real-world impact of public policies on Neighborhood House programs and community well-being.
  • Collaborate with NH leadership, Policy Communications Volunteers, and Communications Manager to promote calls to action.
Planning, Documentation, and Evaluation (10%)
  • Document outreach, participation, and advocacy activities and outcomes.
  • Convey client and community feedback to NH leadership to strengthen program services, organizing strategies and policy agenda.
