Director Board of Directors

Orca Conservancy is seeking two engaged leaders to join our Board of Directors.

Since 1996, Orca Conservancy has worked on behalf of Orcinus orca, the killer whale, and to protect the wild places on which it depends. Our work brings together science, salmon-habitat restoration, conservation advocacy, education, community engagement, innovation, and law to achieve meaningful, lasting conservation outcomes.

These are unpaid volunteer positions on Orca Conservancy’s governing Board. The Board establishes strategic direction and policy, provides financial and legal oversight, safeguards the organization’s mission and assets.

We are looking for thoughtful, collaborative Board members who are prepared to contribute their time, experience, judgment, and professional networks. Experience in nonprofit governance, fundraising, finance, law and public policy, communications, conservation science, community partnerships, or related fields would be especially valuable.

Although the Board is governing rather than operational, Board service requires active participation.

Directors are expected to:

• Attend and prepare for four quarterly Board meetings
• Participate in Board committees or governance initiatives
• Support fundraising, donor cultivation, and community outreach
• Make a personally meaningful annual contribution, with no required minimum
• Respect the distinction between Board oversight and daily staff management
• Act with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to collaborative governance

Most importantly, we are seeking people who genuinely care about the future of orcas, salmon, and the ecosystems that sustain them, and who are ready to help Orca Conservancy continue growing responsibly.
