26-27 Tacoma Community House English Support Specialist
This is an Ameri Corps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Tacoma Community House creates opportunities for immigrants and other community members in the Puget Sound region through comprehensive services focused on self-sufficiency, inclusion and advocacy. This program will support immigrants currently in detention via accompaniment to legal proceedings and conversational English language practice and those recently released to access community resources.
These include resources like immigration, advocacy, English language classes, employment services and youth and young adult housing support at Tacoma Community House, as well as other resources available through partner organizations. Monthly stipend amount: $2,438
- The English Support Specialist will directly support detainees.
- They will visit detainees inside facility weekly for English language conversation practice.
- accompany detainees to legal proceedings in person and virtually.
- meet with and assist individuals with resource referrals upon release.
- coordinate services with AIDNW.
- represent the agency at informational events.
- Education award upon successful completion of service
