Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) seeks a collaborative and visionary candidate for its Executive Director role. We are prioritizing a regional search to find a leader who knows and deeply understands the local community here in the Pacific Northwest. This role requires a change maker balanced with active listening, rooted in community voices and empowerment, who will guide all aspects of the organization as it delivers on its mission to foster and advocate for a robust and equitable theatre community.

Profile

The Board of TPS seeks a visionary candidate to lead the organization into the future. We are looking for an advocate who deeply understands community needs and can create and execute programs to meet them.

Role & Responsibilities

The Executive Director is the leader of the organization, reporting directly to the Board of Directors and representing TPS and the community it serves to its partners and the public.

Mission Delivery
  • Ensure the organization successfully delivers on its core mission.
  • Periodically evaluate programs and plans to measure their contribution to mission achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with programming staff to continuously improve program delivery.
  • Manage all employees and contractors working with the organization.
  • Ensure full compliance with employment law.
  • Encourage a positive workplace culture that prioritizes the organization’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
  • Determine staffing needs and lead the hiring process.
  • Lead staff performance evaluations, including advancement and disciplinary processes.
Board Relations
  • Report to the Board regularly on the status of the organization through attendance at all Board and necessary Committee meetings.
  • Work with the Co-Chairs to develop agendas and facilitate meetings as needed.
  • Partner with the Board to develop plans and strategies to achieve the mission, providing regular updates on the status of the strategic plan.
  • Work with the Board to develop the annual organizational budget.
  • Manage and track the daily expenses of the organization.
  • Review and execute contracts and agreements on behalf of TPS.
Revenue Generation
  • Manage marketing and development plans, providing oversight for staff, contractors, and volunteers engaged in this work.
Public Leadership
  • Establish and nurture relationships with partners, including members, funders, the theatre community, and government entities.
  • Ensure the organization is effectively pursuing its DEI goals.
  • Advocate for Puget Sound performing arts communities with local, regional, and state government officials and entities.
Basic Functions
  • This job requires the regular operation of computer equipment; TPS primarily uses Google Workspace products.
  • This is a hybrid position that will require a majority of in-office work.
  • Pay Rate: $35.00 – $55.00 per hour (Non-Exempt)

Required Qualifications
  • Experience as a committed and effective intersectional anti-racist (this can include formal training, work experience, lived experience, or other demonstrated background).
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Puget Sound area artistic community.
  • At least three years of professional non-profit experience, including the management of people and budgets.
  • Experience with fundraising and communications.
  • Demonstrated track record of building relationships and consensus within organizations and communities.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to delegate and ask for help.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Management or Administration.
  • Deep understanding of the lived experience and impacts of intersectional identities.
  • Deep understanding of restorative justice principles.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Experience negotiating or working with performing arts unions.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and reporting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a Board of Directors.

Pay Rate: 35.00 – $55.00 per hour (Non-Exempt)
