- 30 labor beds (Labor and Delivery)
- 9 OB ED beds total
- 4 OB operating rooms
- Approximately 550–600 births per month
- Deliveries starting from 22–23 weeks gestation
- NICU Level 4 with 77 beds
- Teams include MFM team, Midwifery, OB, Family Medicine
- Programs:
Addiction Recovery for pregnant/laboring patients and postpartum couplets, Doula and Cultural Navigators - 24/7 services:
Anesthesia, Laborist, Neonatology - 5 EAST Main L&D Unit: 6 bed OB ED, 14 labor rooms, 2 ORs, Charge RN, Laborist
- 5 South:
Scheduled C-sections, overflow labor, occasional Antepartum or Postpartum overflow, Charge RN
- Ensure provision of patient care 24 hours a day.
- Accountable for assigned clinical operations, patient care activities, coordinating patient care delivery daily in collaboration with other team members.
- Ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and medical center standards.
- Establish and enforce standards of patient care and nursing practice pertaining to areas of responsibility.
- Develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality improvement programs and goals for delivery of quality patient care.
- Assure compliance with department standards by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery and taking corrective action for identified problems.
- Accountable for appropriate patient care based on assignments, evaluation of patient care and patient/family satisfaction by conducting rounds and intervening accordingly.
- Assume role of patient advocate to clarify and evaluate ethical and/or legal issues, supporting cultural practices.
- Assume accountability for staff retention by tracking turnover and taking steps to reduce turnover among staff.
- Demonstrate clinical competence by assisting with patient care to maintain clinical skills; spend time on all shifts to assess care and coach, develop and advocate for staff.
- Collaborate with clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical educator to identify, plan, and implement an educational program for all levels of staff.
- Hear and adjust up to step-two grievances.
Job Requirements
We are looking for an individual who is engaged, personable, and focused on collaboration within the L&D leadership team and the Women & Children (W&C) leadership team. The ideal candidate shares responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and the patient and caregiver experience. This role reports directly to the L&D Manager. The Senior manager, manager, and clinical supervisor work collaboratively to run the department.
TopPriorities and Goals
- Continue focus on culture work surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts for patients, caregivers, and providers; recent achievements include TEAMBirth and Doula and Cultural Navigator programs.
- Emphasize quality metrics, including NTSV, and collaborate with the RN team for sustained improvement.
- Partner with CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on evidence-based practice changes.
- Interview and hire experienced staff RNs, travelers, and candidates for the residency/fellowship program for L&D.
- Bachelor’s Degree in BSN from an accredited school of nursing, or ADN and a commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire.
- Upon hire:
Washington Registered Nurse License. - Upon hire:
National Provider BLS – American Heart Association. - Three years of recent experience in related clinical area of nursing.
- Must meet criteria of Registered Nurse.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
- One year first‑line management experience.
