Harborview Medical Center’s Inpatient Neurology has an outstanding opportunity for an ARNP;
Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant.
- 100% FTE
- Day shift position with weekend and holiday coverage
- No calls

Join Harborview Medical Center's neurology inpatient service as Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP, Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant). Under general administrative supervision of the Assistant Director for APPs, the APP provides clinical expertise to patients and their families, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in research and teaching programs. Work is performed in the inpatient units 7 days a week with decision‑making responsibility under the guidance of the attending physicians and/or the Associate Medical Director.
Independence in practice and decision‑making will be granted depending on training and experience. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the service and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals.
Practice high quality evidence‑based medicine within the scope of a licensed APP in the inpatient acute care setting including:
- Collaborate with the neurology attending, resident and APPs
- Conduct patient assessments and physical examinations
- Diagnose and manage acute & chronic medical conditions
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Perform procedures within one’s scope and training as appropriate (ie lumbar puncture)
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe and manage medications
- Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary teams, fostering a cooperative atmosphere that promotes effective communication and teamwork
- Provide patient and family education
- Engage in patient discharge planning and follow‑up care coordination
- Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols
- Complete learning modules and participate in continuing education
- Provide mentorship and guidance as appropriate to other staff and students
- Promote a healthy and safe workplace environment
- Maintain appropriate licensure/certification requirements to practice within HMC and the state of Washington
- BLS/ACLS certification required
- Applicant must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the Organized Medical Staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By‑Laws for hospital‑based positions.
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges
- AND National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP‑BC or AGACNP‑BC preferred)
- FNPs with at least 3 years of acute care APP experience will also be considered
- Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington
- AND national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA)
