Overview

American Traveler is seeking an experienced MICU RN for a travel contract at a Magnet-designated academic medical center in Washington, with a strong preference for candidates comfortable with end-of-life care and prior travel experience.

Requirements
  • Active WA state RN license or compact RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of MICU or medical ICU experience strongly preferred
  • At least 2 prior travel assignments beyond initial hospital experience strongly preferred
  • Teaching hospital and trauma hospital experience preferred
  • COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
  • 2 professional references required for consideration
Responsibilities
  • Medical ICU (MICU) unit within a 637-bed Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multi-system organ failure, septic shock, GI bleeding, complicated pregnancy, oncology, renal failure, COPD, and transplant patients at all phases of care
  • Unit operates with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • 13-week contract (with potential to extend beyond 13 weeks)
  • Day and night shifts available: days 7:00–19:30, nights 19:00–7:30 (3x12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend work required unless otherwise noted on posted schedule
  • Floating within the hospital is required; floating to sister hospitals is not required
  • Charting via Epic (experience preferred but not required)
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated unless otherwise stated on the posting
  • Unit emphasizes family-centered care and end-of-life care — comfort with both is strongly preferred
  • Transplant patient care is a key component of this role, with patients present in all phases of transplant
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rates; no radius restriction applies
  • First-time travelers are accepted, though the unit strongly prefers candidates with prior travel experience
  • RTO cannot be requested during orientation week and should otherwise be kept to a minimum; no more than 7 days of RTO in November/December, with up to 1 holiday eligible for RTO — candidates must work 2 of 3 holidays
  • Former UW staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 18 months before being eligible to return as a traveler
Benefits
  • High Pay and Bonuses
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options
  • 401(k) Plan
