Registered Nurse - Cardiac Specialty Unit (0.9 FTE, Nights)
Unit OverviewThe Cardiac Specialty Unit provides bidirectional step-down and step-up care for patients whose needs are not optimally supported by the CICU or acute care ward. The unit will house up to 6 Intermediate Care level patients and 7 cardiac surgical or pre-transplant acute care patients.
Responsibilities- Provide safe, family-centered patient care in accordance with state regulations, ANA Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and Seattle Children’s policies.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the Nursing Care Process in collaboration with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and other personnel as permitted by state code.
- Support Seattle Children’s strategic goals by integrating Continuous Performance Improvement, Value-Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) initiatives into daily practice.
Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Prior experience in a pediatric health care setting or specific nursing specialty may be required for some departments.
- Current Washington State RN license, or other valid state license for the practice area.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers upon hire, unless an appropriate advanced life-support certification (PALS, PEARS) is already held.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) accepted in lieu of BLS.
- RNs in the following areas must obtain and maintain PALS within 3 months of employment:
Cardiac ICU, Cath Lab & Special Procedures, Clinical Research Center, Critical Care Float, Emergency Department, NICU, PICU, Pediatric Transport Control, Radiology (including Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy Lab), Recovery Room (PACU), Surgery (Bellevue). Excluding those on fixed-term contracts with no direct patient contact.
- Pediatric cardiac RN experience.
$51.60 – $91.30 per hour (based on full-time employment of 2 080 hours per calendar year).
