Job Overview
River 6 Surgical Unit is a dynamic 43‑bed acute care floor that cares for pediatric patients across the age continuum. The unit serves multiple services including Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Organ Failure and Transplant, Dialysis, and Neonatology, and receives transfers from NICU, PICU, and CVICU. New hires will join a passionate team that fosters growth and development through precepting, mentoring, and RN‑led committees, with opportunities to build long‑term relationships with patients undergoing multiple surgeries.
Responsibilities- Provide safe, family‑centered patient care, using the Nursing Care Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in collaboration with patients, families, and the health care team.
- Operate within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and Seattle Children’s policies and procedures.
- Support Seattle Children’s strategic goals by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value‑Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA).
- Supervise and delegate tasks to unit team members (Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants) as defined by state regulations.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Prior experience in a pediatric‑related health care setting is required for specific departments; specific experience may be required for certain roles.
- Current Washington State RN License (or equivalent).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers (or appropriate advanced life‑support certification such as PEARS, PALS). BLS must be maintained until the appropriate advanced certification is obtained.
- Nurses working in specific areas (e.g., Acute Care Float, Dialysis, Oncology, Surgical Unit, etc.) must obtain PEARS within six months of employment and maintain it thereafter.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Pediatric health care nursing experience.
$51.60 – $91.30 per hour. Compensation is based on full‑time employment (2080 hours per year) and may vary within this range based on equity, skill, experience, and expertise.
