The inpatient psychiatric advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and directing treatment for adult patients with psychiatric disorders admitted to acute inpatient level of care.

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients 18 years or older with acute psychiatric disorders requiring inpatient hospitalization.
• Conduct suicide and violence risk assessments.
• Formulate and implement comprehensive and evidence‑based treatment plans.
• Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications.
• Order laboratory tests as indicated.
• Manage acute behavioral emergencies with behavioral and pharmacologic interventions.
• Lead treatment team meetings and coordinate activity of the interdisciplinary team, including primary care providers, social workers, RNs, and other team members.
• Consult with primary care providers and other clinicians to facilitate evaluation and treatment of medical conditions.
• Collaborate with Social Workers and Court Evaluators to assess readiness for discharge and formulate discharge plans.
• Document in the electronic medical record.

• Graduate degree from an advanced nursing education program accredited by a national nursing accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
• Active Washington state RN license, without sanctions or restrictions.
• State NP license.
• Current CME hours to maintain licensure.
• Adult/Gerontologic Psychiatry and/or Lifespan Certification of Completion from the American Nurse Credentialing Center or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
• Registration capability with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
• Active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
