Clinical Nurse Coordinator - GU Care Neighborhood

Seattle, Washington, United States (on-site)

Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute‑designated cancer center in Washington. It operates eight clinical care sites that provide oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy, and related services, and has network affiliations with hospitals in five states.

Responsibilities
  • Assess physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluate patients’ adaptation to health changes
  • Develop a plan of care based on patients' disease, symptoms, and response to treatment
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
  • Refer patients, families and caregivers to other clinical resources or professionals such as social work, home health care, or clinical nutrition as appropriate
  • Implement, evaluate, and modify plan of care
  • Integrate research and evidence‑based knowledge into clinical practice
Infusion RN Responsibilities Nursing Care and Assessment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects
  • Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms
  • Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products
Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs
  • Demonstrate awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many agents and use correct precautions when handling them
  • Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products
Patient and Family Education
  • Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan
  • Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregivers
  • Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post‑infusion therapy
Communication and Teamwork
  • Communicate or elevate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed
  • Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care
  • Request consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, or other supportive teams when patient’s situation indicates
Professional Development and Clinic Engagement
  • Participate in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications Required
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or a current NLC multi‑state license (MSL); must upgrade to an MSL primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire (waived under specific circumstances)
  • Applicants without prior oncology experience will receive additional training and support
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent) with renewal required every two years
  • Oncology Chemotherapy Provider Card required within 3 months of hire
  • Critical thinking and clinical judgment skills
  • Time management abilities to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening, clear questioning, and effective information delivery
Preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two years of nursing experience
  • Certification in oncology or specialty practice area
  • Two years of RN oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting
Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $47.64 to $88.19 and is based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step‑scale basis and are eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.
