Help us continue to fulfill our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by providing essential quality of life care for our Veterans! We are now accepting applications for a Nursing Assistant Certified – On‑Call position at the Spokane Veterans Home.
Position OverviewThis is an on‑call, certified nursing assistant role with a 24/7 facility differential pay. The position includes a supplemental basic shift premium of $1.00 per hour, which expires on June 29, 2027.
Hybrid/Telework:
Not eligible.
- Assist residents with positioning, transferring, and ambulation; ensure a safe and secure work environment, including preventative infection control methods.
- Respond to call lights, internal and external emergencies, and facility codes.
- Record care, vital signs, and observations.
- Assist residents with personal clothing, belongings and equipment; bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, etc.
- Assist with therapies and treatment under the direction of licensed personnel; perform motion exercises as needed.
- Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document intake/output records.
- Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti‑embolism stockings, creams or lotions, collecting specimens, etc.
- Provide additional support as needed.
Required
- Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification.
- Current active status on OBRA check.
- Proficient in the English language (read, write, speak).
- High School graduation or GED.
- At least six months experience involving customer service in a health‑care setting or direct patient care.
- Ability to perform data entry and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to provide a positive living environment for residents and report changes in condition.
- Ability to apply infection control procedures and protect resident rights.
- Compliance with all agency required competencies.
Preferred
- Experience with accurate methods for activities of daily living, personal hygiene, sanitation, record keeping, reporting changes, infection control procedures, and respecting residents’ rights.
- Pass a DSHS BCCU background check every two years in accordance with WDVA policy.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening.
- Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
- Lift up to 60 lbs.; reach a minimum of 36 inches with proper technique; work involves pushing/pulling with sufficient strength; walk, sit, and bend unrestrictedly throughout the day.
- Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
- Maintain reliable attendance; work as needed.
- Complete orientation and all mandatory training within required time frames.
- Become familiar and comply with all DVA policies, procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
- Sign confidentiality statement.
- For positions requiring travel: possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and insurance for private vehicle use on state business.
- Work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
