Overview
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level 3 Perinatal/Magnet teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 3 years of L&D experience and Epic proficiency.
Requirements- Active WA RN license or compact RN license valid in Washington — pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and FHM
- Preferred certifications: AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, EFM Certification, NCC
- Teaching hospital experience preferred; academic medical center experience may substitute for travel experience
- COVID vaccination and booster required — no exceptions
- Two professional references required, with supervisory references strongly preferred
- Core L&D skills required include: labor and delivery management, assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, hemorrhage/shock management, sterile vaginal exams, and use of external and internal fetal monitoring
- Medication administration experience required, including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, and prostaglandins
- Neonatal delivery room care skills required, including APGAR scoring, baby nurse/catcher role, /security banding, and use of radiant warmers
- IV therapy skills required, including starting and maintaining IVs, administering blood products, and using infusion pumps and drips
- Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit at a Magnet-designated academic teaching center
- Extreme high-risk Level 3 Perinatal center — approximately 70% of patients are complex high-risk cases
- Facility features a Level 4 NICU serving as a regional center, with approximately 150 births per month
- Patient population includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care, including high-risk obstetrical cases
- Patient ratio is 1:1
- Unit includes 2 ORs for C-sections, BTLs, and postpartum D&Cs; a second L&D RN serves as 'baby catcher' for well, non-compromised newborns
- Unit also provides outpatient services when the clinic is closed
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Weekend work is required
- Floating within the hospital is required; floating to sister hospitals is not required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Charting system:
Epic (experience required) - Scrubs in any color; scrubs are provided for OR personnel
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate — no radius restriction
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 1 week for the duration of the contract; no RTO may be requested during the first 2 weeks (including orientation week)
- Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
- Candidates who were previously employed by UW must have a minimum of 18 months of separation from the facility before being eligible to return as a traveler
- Non-billable online modules are required prior to the start date — approximately 6–8 hours for RN onboarding plus 2 additional hours for OBIX L&D modules; WA suicide prevention training (6 hours) may also be required
- Preferred skills include: forceps/vacuum extraction, hemorrhage/shock management, amniocentesis assistance, cervical cerclage, cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation, and care for IOL/TOP patients
- Experience with Level 3 Perinatal and Level 4 NICU environments is preferred
