JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct patient care within an outpatient cardiology clinic setting. This role is focused on triaging patient calls and messages, assessing symptoms, determining appropriate escalation, and reinforcing medication instructions. The RN will also be responsible for clinical tasks such as obtaining EKGs and vital signs, and assessing patients for potential complications.
Key Responsibilities- Triage patient calls and messages using clinic protocols and provider direction.
- Assess patient symptoms and determine appropriate clinical escalation.
- Reinforce medication instructions already ordered by providers.
- Assess patients for chest pain, new/worsening shortness of breath, syncope/near-syncope, stroke-like symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, unstable vitals, or signs of vascular access complications, and upscale urgent when necessary.
- Obtain 12-lead EKG/ECG.
- Obtain vital signs.
- Perform medication reconciliation.
- Conduct pain assessments.
- Gather patient health history and allergies.
- Interpret arrhythmias.
- Administer CPR and utilize AED.
- Manage hypertension.
- Administer oxygen.
- Complete follow‑up phone calls.
- Provide patient education, particularly regarding lifestyle modifications and medication adherence.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (5x8hr shifts)
Required Qualifications- Registered Nurse (RN) License
- 1 year of experience as an RN in an outpatient cardiology clinic and triage setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- 1 year of experience as an RN in an outpatient cardiology clinic setting.
- Experience in a triage setting.
- Patient Assessment (including symptom assessment, medication reconciliation, pain assessment, health history)
- Cardiovascular knowledge (arrhythmia interpretation, CPR, AED, hypertension management)
- Neurological assessment (altered level of consciousness)
- Pulmonary assessment (oxygen administration)
- Medication management
- EKG/ECG interpretation
- Patient education
- Follow‑up communication
- Team collaboration
- Quality improvement
- EPIC charting experience is required.
