Position: CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR, UWMC - NURSING STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Job Description

UW Medical Center-Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time night shift ICU/ED Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE). The CNE will be our Subject Matter Expert who will provide clinical education, quality improvement support, and clinical expertise to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and Emergency Department with the Nurse Staff Development team.

  • Full time / 100% FTE
  • Night shifts Monday-Friday
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

This position supports nursing orientation, ongoing professional development, competency management, and evidence-based practice for night shift nursing staff. The role partners with clinical leaders to advance quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes while supporting nursing excellence across the continuum of care.

Primary

Job Responsibilities
  • Advise, coordinate, and support orientation programs for ICU and ED night shift nursing staff, including traveling nurses, experienced nurses, new graduate nurses, and nurses participating in the ICU Consortium or equivalent programs.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational programs, simulation activities, skills labs, competency validation, and annual education designed to improve clinical practice, patient safety, and professional development for night shift staff.
  • Partner with nursing leadership, CNSs, physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and interdisciplinary teams to identify educational priorities and align learning strategies with organizational goals.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives through protocol development, implementation, staff education, outcome monitoring, data collection, and dissemination of best practices.
  • Support unit-based quality, safety, and professional practice initiatives, including participation in shared governance councils and other departmental committees.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and consultant by modeling advanced nursing practice and providing guidance in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for critically ill patients.
  • Promote the integration of evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards and initiatives that impact oncology patient outcomes
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
    Master's degree in Nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Four to five years of recent intensive care nursing experience.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of leadership, educator, charge nurse, or project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff education, competency management, quality improvement, or evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
