American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring 3+ years of acute care experience and prior travel assignment history.
Details- Acute Care Float Pool role within a 450-bed teaching hospital with 290 acute care beds
- Float to Medical-Surgical, BMT, Oncology, Cardiac Surgery, Telemetry, Neuro, Rehab, Transplant, Short Stay and boarding units
- Resource Team travelers may float to ED, PACU, ICU or other boarding areas to care for boarding patients
- Day shift may involve changing units up to 3 times within a 12-hour shift
- Patient population includes gynecology, urology, and oncology patients dispersed throughout the hospital
- Day shift ratios 1:3-4;
Night shift ratios 1:4-5 - 17-week assignment with 3x12-hour shifts, nights
- Weekend work required on an as-needed basis
- No on-call requirements
- Floating within the hospital required to all acute care units, rehab, and boarding areas
- No floating to sister hospitals
- Uses Epic for charting
- Orientation includes exposure to 5 different units over the first 3 shifts
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 3 years of acute care experience required
- Prior travel assignment experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic charting experience required
- Experience titrating insulin and Heparin drips highly preferred
- Experience with PCAs and managing epidural medications such as Ketamine preferred
- Skills checklist and references must be completed within the past 6 months by a direct supervisor
- Care for high-acuity acute care patients in a Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Charge nurse is not included in staffing ratios, except boarding charge which is included
- Required to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- RTO should be kept to a minimum (aim for 6 days or fewer) to maximize scheduling flexibility, with stricter limits during peak summer and winter holiday periods
- RTO cannot be requested during the first 2 weeks or orientation week of the assignment
- Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
- Prior UW Medical Center staff must have a minimum 18-month separation before returning as a traveler
- Scrubs may be any color; scrubs are provided for OR personnel
- COVID vaccination and booster required with no exceptions
