OverviewWe are a ship repair and industrial coatings company specializing in large commercial vessels. We are seeking a QA / Marine Paint Inspector with CIP Level 1 (or equivalent) certification who can step into an active production environment and contribute immediately.
This role requires someone comfortable working in the field, on vessels, and in confined spaces such as tanks, while maintaining strict quality control and documentation standards.
This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced, production‑driven environment — ideal for someone who takes ownership of their work and can operate independently.
Key Responsibilities- Perform coating inspections in accordance with project specifications and QC plans
- Maintain Daily Inspection Reports (DIRs) and all related testing documentation
- Verify environmental conditions and surface preparation prior to coating application
- Inspect coating application and verify compliance with specifications
- Document and report non‑conforming work
- Ensure all inspection activities align with company Quality Manual and contract requirements
- Maintain organized records for all projects
- Compressed air cleanliness
- Abrasive cleanliness and conductivity
- Surface preparation standards and profile
- Illumination levels (SSPC Tech Guide 12)
- Coating batch numbers and mixing compliance
- Dry Film Thickness (DFT) readings (including SSPC PA 2 when required)
- Storage conditions and temperature tracking
- Maintain calibration verification records for inspection equipment
- Ensure calibration checks meet manufacturer or industry standards
- Maintain and support non‑conformance logs
- Assist in identifying recurring quality issues and corrective actions
- Support audit readiness and compliance with industry standards (AMPP)
- OR strong related experience with willingness to obtain certification (case‑by‑case basis)
- 1–3+ years in coatings, QA/QC, or industrial inspection
- Understanding of surface preparation and coating application processes
- Strong documentation and attention to detail
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to complete and manage digital reports (PDFs)
Must be comfortable working:
- On vessels and in shipyard environments
- In physically demanding and “hands‑on” conditions
Must be willing to:
- Travel as needed (including occasional out-of-state work)
- Drive between Seattle and Tacoma job sites (sometimes multiple locations per day)
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required to meet project demands
- $30–$40/hour
