Position OverviewThe Department of Medicine Division of Cardiology has an outstanding opportunity for a full‑time Research Study Assistant to join their team. The purpose of this position is to support the research objectives of the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU). Division physicians address the prevention and treatment of heart and vascular disease through the investigation of new technologies, drugs, and devices that ultimately translate into best practices and improvement of patient care.
The CTU at the University of Washington supports these investigators by providing a sound clinical research infrastructure and ensuring research participant safety, compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.
The CTU provides investigator support on all aspects of heart and vascular disease for investigator‑initiated, government, and industry‑sponsored clinical research studies. The CTU supports and manages Human Subjects, regulatory, and financial oversight to ensure efficient execution of studies with the highest quality data.
This position will provide support to the CTU Research Manager and Research Coordinators within the Division of Cardiology in the conduct of both NIH and industry‑sponsored clinical trials. The Research Study Assistant will work independently and in collaboration with Clinical Research Coordinators and faculty on assigned projects.
This position requires an ability to be comfortable with substantial independent work, excellent communication and organizational skills, a high attention to detail, and many repetitive assigned tasks. The Research Study Assistant provides on‑site support to a busy, hybrid office, and substantial independent work.
Duties & Responsibilities General RSA ResponsibilitiesThis position will provide general research support and assistance to the UW Cardiology Clinical Trials Unit research team. This position must be able to work independently on multiple research projects, prioritizing work with simultaneous and competing timelines. This position must be able to work independently on multiple research projects with reduced oversight once the initial onboarding training is complete. This position requires collaboration with Research Coordinators, Administrative and Regulatory teams, health care teams, research participants, and other groups integral to the successful completion of the research projects.
Research Study Assistants with the Clinical Trial Unit provide assistance and support on multiple, complex interventional clinical research studies under the general oversight of the Research Coordinator, Research Manager, and Principal Investigator. After completion of an initial training and onboarding period, Research Study Assistants are expected to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to be primarily responsible for the coordination and day‑to‑day operations of minimal risk, non‑interventional clinical research projects within the CTU, such as registries, observational studies, and other clinical research or special projects under minimal oversight.
RSA Responsibilities Research Participant and Study Visit Support
- Complete laboratory requisition forms, and assemble specific kits for upcoming research subject visits. Order and maintain study kit inventory, along with kit breakdown and destruction.
- Prepare study document packets in preparation for upcoming research subject visits.
- Assist Research Coordinators with tracking research subject samples following study‑specific guidelines for storage and shipping.
