The Cell Therapy Product Sciences department is seeking a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to support the development of CAR T cell products. The goal of BMS Cell Therapy is to revolutionize medicine by re‑directing the body’s immune cells to specifically target cancer cells. The Product Sciences Team is responsible for developing and executing characterization assays and mechanism of action studies to support the development of CAR T cell therapies.
The primary focus of the Product Sciences Research Associate or Sr. Research Associate role will be to execute in vitro studies to build CAR T cell product and manufacturing process understanding. Successful candidates will have a solid foundation in human T cell biology and a proven track‑record of implementation and optimization of vitro cell‑based assays using human immune and/or tumor cells.
- Optimize and execute characterization of CAR T cells leveraging: flow cytometry, cell-based functional immunoassays, quantification of secreted cytokines and molecular assays
- Assume some laboratory management responsibilities (i.e. maintaining general laboratory space organization, placing orders for general laboratory supplies, cell culture maintenance, cell and biological material inventory maintenance)
- Timely and thorough documentation and completion of electronic laboratory notebooks
- Perform statistical data analysis, where applicable
- Present experimental findings/results following study completion
- Collaborate with other members of the Product Sciences Team for the identification and prioritization of novel analytical approaches for interrogating CAR T cell phenotype and function
- B.S. degree in immunology, cell biology or related field with 0‑3 years of relevant experience
- Experience with human T cell biology and analytical tools for interrogating T cell phenotype and function (e.g. cytotoxicity assays, proliferation, cytokine production assays, multi‑color conventional and spectral flow cytometry)
- Experience with in vitro cell culture systems (i.e. maintaining cell lines and/or primary cells in culture, comfortable with sterility techniques)
- Experience with multi‑parameter flow cytometry
- Proven ability to work in a high‑paced team environment, meet deadlines, & prioritize work on multiple projects
- Strong detail orientation and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility with work schedule to support the maintenance of cell cultures and execution of cell‑based assays
- Experience with in vitro T cell functional assays
- Experience with transduction/transfection protocols to generate CAR T cells
- Experience with standard and next generation analytical platforms for the characterization of T cell phenotype, differentiation, and function (transcriptome and secretome profiling, metabolic analysis, etc)
- Experience with data visualization software and/or coding‑based data analysis (i.e. JMP, Prism, R or Python)
- Track record of successful internal and/or external scientific collaborations
