We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Research Analyst to conduct research, analyze and visualize data, and write reports on the global trade in food, beverage, and agricultural goods. Experience in these sectors is not necessary, but a keen interest in international affairs and trade makes for a strong fit.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Analyst contributes substantially to the work that BCI delivers for our clients, including:

  • Providing global trade intelligence on market access and trade barriers for food and agricultural products, including tariffs, phytosanitary requirements, and customs processes.
  • Providing global regulatory intelligence on food safety, packaging sustainability (e.g., plastics and waste reduction), sustainable agricultural production, and food labeling requirements.
  • Developing customized data dashboards using Power BI or Excel.
  • Producing competitor studies to deliver global or market-specific intelligence.
  • Assessing current or promising international markets for client products.
  • Supporting program evaluations to assess and improve export market development programs.
  • Contributing research and analysis to support BCI’s market access and market development consulting.

Day-to-day activities for client-driven work include:

  • Technical regulatory research on foreign markets
  • Data analysis and data visualization
  • Market research and trade policy research
  • Interview research with industry stakeholders
  • Producing clear, concise regulatory and trade alert items
  • Other duties in support of BCI leadership and activities
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, agricultural sciences, political science, public policy, economics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, as well as experience with data visualization and AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Claude, or similar).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to critically analyze data, arrive at a clear understanding of technical regulations, and bring together quantitative and qualitative information to draw supportable conclusions.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex or technical information accurately, concisely, and clearly through narrative text and data presentation.
  • Attention to detail – accuracy in data analysis, regulatory analysis, and report writing is critical to our clients’ success.
Preferred
  • 2+ years of professional experience in research, consulting, market intelligence, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of agricultural production, food trade policy, regulatory affairs, or global food systems.
  • Experience with regulatory monitoring, compliance intelligence, or policy analysis across multiple jurisdictions.

This is a full-time, salaried position based in BCI’s Seattle, WA or Sacramento, CA office. Compensation and benefits include:

  • Salary range: $65,000–$75,000 DOE
  • Performance‑based incentive compensation tied to business development outcomes
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Professional development and conference participation support
