Senior Run Research Physiologist

The Brooks Run Research Lab is at the forefront of transforming human movement and runner experience into innovations that empower every runner to go faster, run longer, and feel more alive. This role focuses on advanced exercise physiology research and collaboration with product teams to create optimal, customized product solutions.

• Manage exercise physiology research programs that lead to new insights and technologies to improve runner performance and reduce injury incidence.
• Lead project management of owned research projects across multiple business objectives, utilizing project management tools to track development, tasks, deadlines, and budgets.
• Independently lead research projects including collecting, recording, and analyzing exercise physiology data in an unbiased, objective manner.
• Create new frameworks and vision that define research strategy across broad themes of applications.
• Connect with the run and runner to identify unexploited opportunities.
• Support advancements in data collection and analysis hardware/software, driving use of field-based data collection.
• Generate original ideas and combine existing concepts in new ways while avoiding solutions that create new problems.
• Manage research projects relating to running physiology independent of product and apply insights to business decisions.
• Initiate and lead meetings with functional managers of product creation teams (Development, Product Line Management, Merchandising, Design, Engineering, Color) to align projects, discuss impacts of research findings, and coordinate product development timelines.
• Translate research findings and project status to senior-level executives, presenting persuasive, actionable conclusions and data storytelling.
• Lead meetings with senior-level members (Senior Manager, Director) to identify growth opportunities for the research program.
• Share the science of research programs and their fit within the footwear framework with scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
• Understand Brooks’ viewpoint relative to brand and market.
• Teach, train, and present scientific principles related to exercise physiology and runner performance to technical and non‑technical groups.
• Identify market opportunities based on trends and consumer needs related to exercise physiology and human performance.
• Partner with senior product creation members to identify collaborations and prototype new concepts.
• Manage up to one direct report, cultivating a culture of innovation and actionable product suggestions.
• Network with industry leaders and present at national and international conferences.

• Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or equivalent analytical field and 3+ years of relevant work experience (or equivalent combination).
• 3+ years of applied laboratory‑based research experience in endurance sports, preferably running.
• 1+ year of experience managing direct reports (desired).
• Expert understanding of anatomy, physiology, applied physiology, experimental design, and statistical methods related to running performance.
• Proven leadership to supervise a team and lead strategic business objectives.
• Track record of creating innovative research studies that enhance the understanding of exercise physiology in relation to running product.
• Experience teaching, training, and presenting scientific principles to technical and non‑technical groups.
• Expertise in study design, including unbiased data collection, recording, and analysis.
• Experience with human subject data collection (stationary metabolic carts, portable metabolic systems, spirometry, biomarkers, muscle oxygenation, phlebotomy, thermography, etc.).
• Active Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM‑EP) certification with 3+ years of applied laboratory‑based research in elite athletes, preferably runners.
• Ability to develop productive relationships across multidisciplinary and cultural teams.
• Initiate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
