Research Technician I/II
The Sullivan Laboratory in the Division of Human Biology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center studies the metabolism of cancer cells. We are interested in understanding how cancers alter their cell metabolism to support biomass synthesis and survive stress and in identifying new metabolic targets to suppress tumor growth. We seek an enthusiastic candidate for a role that balances cutting edge research, collaborative work, and lab management.
The ability to work in a team as well as taking individual initiative will be essential.
The Research Technician I/II is responsible for performing standard investigative laboratory experiment work in support of scientific research in cancer metabolism. The job will entail performing experiments, operating analytical instruments, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data, performing calculations, preparing charts, graphs, summaries and presentations.
The technician works under the direction of the Principal Investigator and in collaboration with other laboratory personnel. The work will require working with cancer cells in cell culture and molecular and cell biology methods. Our research program is highly adaptable to different research directions and goals and so additional opportunities for training/research may include mouse work, application of novel metabolic biosensors, mass spectrometry, live cell imaging, drug profiling, and others.
ResponsibilitiesThe technician will work under the direction of Dr. Sullivan and other laboratory personnel to perform experiments and to support the experiments of others. The candidate's time will be divided into two parts: ~50% effort conducting cutting edge research in cancer metabolism and ~50% effort for laboratory maintenance and lab management.
