On-Call Field Archaeologist - Puget Sound - Seattle

Job Summary

ICF’s Environment & Planning Division is hiring On‑Call Archaeologists based near Puget Sound (greater Seattle area). The role supports senior archaeologists in field and lab activities including survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, construction monitoring, and report preparation. Work is primarily local and may involve up to 8 days of travel.

• Assist senior archaeologists in fieldwork (survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, construction monitoring).
• Conduct laboratory analysis and background research.
• Prepare reports and documentation.
• Maintain detailed field notes and record artifacts.
• Travel up to 8 days for assignments; travel time is paid hourly.
• Use single‑occupancy hotels and GSA per diem rates while traveling.

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of field experience in archaeological monitoring and survey.
• Valid driver’s license and successful Motor Vehicle Records check.

• Experience conducting field visits in the Pacific Northwest.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with senior staff and construction personnel.
• Computer and device proficiency.
• Background in precontact or historic‑period archaeology.
• For Crew Lead: experience in technical writing and crew leadership.

• Hourly pay:  25– 30 for On‑Call Archaeologist;  30– 35 for On‑Call Archaeologist (Crew Lead).
• Full‑time pay range:  55,424– 94,221, based on experience, location, education, and contractual factors.

Work occurs outdoors under all weather conditions and may require hiking 5–10 miles per day, shovel testing, and extended standing. Overnight travel is not required for most assignments.
