The Norcliffe Foundation Center for Integrative Brain Research (NFCI ) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI) and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor without tenure due to funding with an anticipated start date of January 2027. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary team dedicated to advancing knowledge of pediatric neuroscience through cutting‑edge, translationally relevant research.
We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full‑time basis for a twelve‑month appointment renewable.
Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty‑one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI).
Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop and lead an independent, innovative research program in neuroscience with translational relevance, with a focus on improving outcomes for pediatric neurological disorders.
- Secure and sustain extramural funding to support research activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across NFCI , SCRI, and affiliated institutions.
- Participate in the academic missions of NFCI , SCRI and the Department of Pediatrics, including teaching and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty.
- Aim to translate research findings into clinical applications, ideally fostering a bench‑to‑bedside approach to improve child health outcomes.
- Engage in service to the department, center, and institution, contributing to a culture of collaboration, excellence, and inclusivity
The Norcliffe Foundation Center for Integrative Brain Research (NFCI ) is a growing and dynamic center within Seattle Children’s Research Institute, focused on understanding the complexities of brain development, function, and disorders in children. The center employs integrative approaches that span basic, translational, and clinical neuroscience, creating a highly collaborative environment with close ties with clinical research at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
NFCI faculty are University of Washington employees and there are abundant opportunities for research collaboration with nearby leading research institutions such the Allen Brain and Cell Biology Institutes, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, fostering interdisciplinary partnerships and access to cutting‑edge resources.
