Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states.

Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.

Fred Hutch is seeking a Sr. Staff Scientist to engage in research activities and program management. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Sr. Staff Scientist to work in a collaborative environment leading a program focused on Controlled Human Infection Models (CHIM) for multiple pathogens. We are also seeking a candidate who can contribute to studying innate and adaptive immunology in humans and translational NHP models.

We are actively exploring and developing various CHIMs, e.g. malaria, TB, and H. pylori, to expand the translational research opportunities derived from access to CHIMs including vaccines, immune-based prevention and therapies, and other therapeutic interventions. Additionally, we have samples from multiple malaria CHIM studies from which we expect to pursue additional immunology studies and compare these to ongoing or future studies in NHP models.

This position is ideally suited for a candidate who is highly productive and motivated, enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines, mentoring junior scientific investigators, and contributing to an innovative academic environment to forge new scientific directions. The ideal candidate should have experience in CHIMs and immunology, a track record of successful grant writing, and demonstrated aptitude for innovation, creativity, and team-science. A commitment to excellent patient care, professionalism, collegiality, and respect for colleagues, staff, students, and patients, and scholarly contributions are all critical for success in this work.

Fred Hutch offers a supportive environment where continuous learning is encouraged and opportunities for growth are constantly sought.
