Position: Research Study Assistant (Temporary)

Research Study Assistant

The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Assistant to join their team.

The Research Study Assistant will operate under supervision of Dr. Michelle Shin conducting new and ongoing practice-based research projects at the University of Washington. The RSA will provide overall support for all aspects of a number of multi-focused research projects, ranging from definition of research problems through dissemination of results. The RSA will recruit, screen, and schedule research participants, collect mixed-methods data, monitor study progress, perform data entry, manage student assistants, and conduct day-to-day laboratory operations.

The RSA will work amongst a team of professionals including researchers, graduate students, technical support staff, and undergraduate assistants/volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Research Duties – Collect and manage data (50%)

  • recruit and schedule research participants
  • obtain informed consent and maintain confidentiality of research participants and data
  • collect data: surveys, in-depth interviews, field observation, and focus groups
  • assign and coordinate data collection and management duties of students
  • create and manage a REDcap surveys
  • create and manage a data repository for study data on Sharepoint
  • manage and review data entry to ensure accuracy
  • analyze electronic health records of participating clinics
  • perform initial data pre-processing and data quality assurance checks
  • manage data collection for ongoing studies

Administrative Responsibilities – 5%

  • prepare, deliver, and track subject payment via gift cards or checks
  • coordinating research team meetings within the internal team as well as partners from other institutions

Other Duties - 20%

  • conduct literature reviews, retrieve articles and publications, monitor literature for new citations
  • assist in manuscript preparation
  • prepare dissemination materials including PowerPoint presentations, graphics and posters
  • draft and/or modify human subjects IRB applications

Supervisory Responsibilities

The RSA will be required to supervise student research assistants in the laboratory.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college-level coursework in public health, epidemiology, nursing, anthropology, or a relevant academic area, and one year of appropriate experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • experience working with community partners
  • experience working on research projects and understanding of data collection practices
  • fluency with Microsoft Office suite, business internet practices
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • strong interpersonal skills
  • excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • ability to work independently with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • prior experience collecting mixed methods data
  • prior experience working in primary care settings
  • prior experience in clinical research support, including working knowledge of issues relating to human subjects (obtaining informed consent, IRB, HIPAA, etc.).
  • familiarity with Atlas.ti or other qualitative software, R, and/or Stata

Working Conditions

  • This position requires flexibility with work hours - may be required to work evenings and weekends depending on research subject availability

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$45,036.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$49,452.00 annual
