Research Assistant/Associate, Lab Tech / Assistant
Job Title
The Talbot Lab (Basic Sciences Division) is looking for a reliable, organized, detail-oriented individual, to support ongoing exciting research on neuro-immunology, gut microbiota and infectious diseases.
Job DescriptionThis is ideal for an individual who is interested in an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment and has an interest in mouse as a genetic organism for biomedical research. The time commitment will range from 4 hours per day and will not exceed 12 hours per week. A commitment of at least one year is expected.
ResponsibilitiesUnder close supervision of members of the lab, the person in this position will:
- Assist with regular maintenance of our mouse colony, which consists in animal biopsy, breeding and weaning.
- Maintain electronic spreadsheet for the mouse colony
- General lab cleaning and organization.
- Assisting lab members with experiments.
- Perform other duties as required.
Other Expectations:
- Work collaboratively within the Talbot Lab and with Hutch and external collaborators.
- Show respect to all members of the lab and the broader Hutch community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent with an interest in the sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of college-level coursework in biology.
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree.
- Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
- Basic computer skills and comfort with learning new software systems.
- Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to learn new tools and content quickly and independently.
- Strong communication skills.
