Student Helper, Gern Lab

• Facilitate the day-to-day operation of the Gern laboratory
• Assist lab members with experiments
• Design, execute, interpret, and present experimental results
• Contribute to ongoing laboratory projects
• Learn and apply existing and emerging scientific methods and knowledge
• Exercise independent judgment to address tasks and projects
• Identify and refine existing procedures and practices
• Participate in managing a small rodent colony
• Perform advanced confocal microscopy techniques
• Perform flow cytometry
• Perform cell culture
• Genotype mice using DNA extraction, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis
• Organize the lab, order supplies, and maintain records
• Set up immunological assays
• Provide general lab support

• Must be 18 years or older
• Currently enrolled in high school or in college or university pursuing an undergraduate degree, or taking courses to meet prerequisite requirements for a future degree program
• Data entry and word processing experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
• Administrative experience in a research setting preferred
• Currently enrolled in college level courses at an accredited college or university preferred

Demonstrates proficiency in advanced laboratory techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and cell culture, while effectively managing laboratory operations and contributing to experimental design and execution.
