Research Technician I

The Research Technician I is responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries. The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) Laboratory Program is part of an international collaboration of scientists and educators searching for an effective and safe HIV vaccine.

The HVTN’s mission is to develop preventive HIV vaccines. The organization conducts all phases of clinical trials from evaluating experimental vaccines for safety and the ability to stimulate immune responses to testing vaccine efficacy. We are recruiting an individual to lead the Site Affiliated Laboratory (SAL) processing group.

Responsibilities
  • Process blood and other biological specimens using established sterile and aseptic laboratory techniques and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform routine sample processing procedures, including isolation and cryopreservation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), preparation and aliquoting of serum and plasma, and preparation of specimens for downstream laboratory testing.
  • Receive, inventory, label, and prepare biological specimens for storage and shipment in accordance with established laboratory procedures and applicable shipping regulations.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines, including data entry into laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Coordinate with laboratory and clinical staff regarding specimen collection schedules and processing needs to ensure timely handling of study samples.
  • Operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, microscopes, automated cell counters, ultra-low temperature freezers, and biological safety cabinets, reporting equipment issues as needed.
