The University of Washington Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scholar in cancer imaging within the Onco Rad Lab, led by Medical Director Dr. Achille Mileto, MD.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of radiologists, oncologists, data scientists, image analysts, and other faculty and research professionals across the University of Washington and its affiliated hospitals. The postdoctoral scholar will play a central role in developing a comprehensive imaging biomarker program within the Onco Rad Lab, integrating advanced imaging technologies, computational analytics, and clinical oncology applications.
This position is designed to generate high-impact scientific discoveries while also establishing the infrastructure, collaborative networks, and grant-supported research foundation necessary for long-term programmatic growth. By leveraging multimodality imaging datasets, radiomics, artificial intelligence, and longitudinal clinical imaging data, the postdoctoral scholar will develop clinically meaningful imaging biomarkers aimed at improving cancer detection, tumor characterization, treatment response assessment, prognostication, and personalized treatment planning.
The position provides an opportunity for a highly motivated researcher to develop scientific independence while working closely with experienced clinical and research mentors in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
A central goal of this position is the formal development of an Imaging Biomarker Program within the Onco Rad Lab at the University of Washington. This program will serve as a foundational research initiative focused on advancing quantitative imaging science in oncology and establishing scalable infrastructure for future scientific and clinical research.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design and lead innovative research projects focused on quantitative imaging, imaging biomarker development, and translational oncology.
- Develop standardized imaging repositories and curated oncology imaging datasets to support reproducible research.
- Create and implement reproducible imaging analysis pipelines and workflows utilizing advanced computational approaches, including radiomics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image analysis, and longitudinal imaging assessment.
- Integrate multimodal imaging data with clinical, pathologic, molecular, and longitudinal outcome data to develop clinically meaningful biomarkers.
- Establish and implement strategies for imaging biomarker development, validation, and clinical translation using retrospective and prospective clinical datasets, supporting future multi-institutional studies.
- Expand AI-driven imaging research capabilities within the laboratory and broader oncology research program.
- Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, data scientists, image analysts, research staff, trainees, and external partners to advance translational oncology research initiatives.
- Develop collaborative research partnerships with other departments, clinical programs, and cancer-focused research groups.
- Contribute to grant development and submission, including NIH, foundation, and industry-sponsored proposals related to quantitative imaging, imaging biomarkers, and translational oncology.
