GENERAL INTRODUCTIONEach position employed with CYO Camps helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSEThe Environmental Education Seasonal Head Cookis responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring thepreparationand serving of nutritious and delicious meals for campers and staff. This role includes managing kitchen staff,maintaining health and safety standards, and contributing to a positive dining experience.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES- Function as the general all-around cook for all meals and special events, creating diverse and appealing menus that cater to various dietary needs and preferences.
- Prepare and servetastefulmeals and snacks based on the provided menu, ensuring sufficient quantities are available while minimizing food waste through effective planning and inventory management.
- Supervise and lead the seasonal kitchen staff, providing training, guidance, and support to ensure high standards of food preparation and service are met.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages teamwork and communication among kitchen staff.
- Receive and properly storefood and cleaning supplies in accordance withlocal health standards, ensuring all items are fresh and safe for consumption.
- Use appropriate kitchen equipment, including electrical and mechanical tools, safely and efficiently while adhering to local health and safety regulations.
- Clean and prepare food service areas for use during the camp season, implementing thorough cleaning protocols and preparing the kitchen for off-season storage.
- Deepcleanall kitchen areas, including appliances, storage spaces, and food contact surfaces, tomaintaina hygienic environment.
- Ensure that the kitchen staffoperatesthe dishwasher correctly whilemaintainingappropriate temperaturesandoverseethe logging of dishwasher temperatures for compliance.
- Monitor the cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and the kitchen area, conducting regular inspections to uphold sanitation standards.
- Log and regularly check refrigerator and freezer temperatures to guarantee food safety and prevent spoilage.
- Participate in cleaning andmaintainingall areas of the camp to uphold hygiene standards and create a pleasant environment for campers and staff.
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church.
- A good example for youthinappearance, attitudes, as wellas inmoral, ethical and spiritual behavior.
HS Diploma or significant qualifying experience.
Experience- Previous experience ina kitchen management or head cook role, preferably in a camp or large-scale food service environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
- Ability to create and execute menus that meet dietary needs and preferences.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to the mission and values ofCYO.
- Strong communication skills, verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure in time constraints.
- Must be able to lift/unload/move food and supplies.
- Current CPR/First aid and Food Handlersrequiredorwillingness to obtain prior to camp season.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.
- Must be over 18.
