Position Summary

Central Co-op’s Deli department showcases our robust in‑house prepared foods program and features ready‑to‑eat items from a diverse group of local small vendors. The Deli Clerk delivers an outstanding customer experience through friendly, knowledgeable and efficient service of prepared foods and crafts espresso in our café. Position

Responsibilities
  • Serve and package prepared deli products from a full‑service case as requested by customers.
  • Prepare espresso and fresh juice/smoothie beverages to order and prep fresh product for future orders.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all levels, including at the deli register.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of deli products and ingredients and be willing to answer customer questions and provide recommendations.
  • Maintain product levels and cleanliness in self‑service deli areas, including the hot bar, soup bar, and cooler cases.
  • Engage professionally with vendors and suppliers and ensure order accuracy when receiving.
  • Place orders, receive product, or code invoices as requested.
Position Qualifications
  • Desire and ability to provide an excellent, friendly customer experience and effectively listen to and communicate with customers and co‑workers.
  • Ability to take direction from management and work independently to meet expectations.
  • Proficiency at prioritizing and multitasking, balancing multiple responsibilities.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and capability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with cash handling and point‑of‑sale equipment.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours, lift 50 lbs., and perform a variety of repetitive body movements, fine hand manipulation, and knife work.
  • Prior experience as a barista, deli employee, retail grocery, and/or customer service is preferred.
