Lead Cashier, Retail

Overview

This position is a Lead Cashier at Ulta Beauty, responsible for efficient guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards. The Lead Cashier trains new cashiers, cross‑trains other associates, drives loyalty results, and supports the leadership team with open and close register functions.

• Meet or exceed store goals related to retail and service sales, omni‑channel, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Provide exceptional service by greeting guests, personalizing service, and recommending Ulta Beauty products and services.
• Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
• Partner with associates to perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Book appointments and support the execution of services and in‑store events to deliver an unrivaled guest experience and achieve sales goals.
• Maintain cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest‑readiness at all times.
• Maintain attendance and punctuality.
• Create an inclusive environment for teammates, peers, and guests.
• Complete cashier chat ins and outs and associate exit inspections as needed.
• Stay informed on industry trends, product benefits, and services to better serve guests.
• Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program and lead associates in reaching credit and loyalty goals.
• Assist in training new cashiers and cross‑training other associates in cashiering.
• Engage and influence peers to achieve peak productivity and performance.
• Drive cashier accountability in delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty experience and following system prompts.
• Participate in ongoing training, including brand and category education.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to the dress code.
• Control all cash and media at the cashwrap according to company policies.
• Complete select register open and close functions as directed.
• Maintain overall store cleanliness and standards.
• Protect company assets and minimize loss through compliance with safety, inventory control, and loss prevention procedures.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Education

• High school diploma preferred.

Experience

• Preferred: 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience.
• Proven ability to delegate, multi‑task, and problem‑solve.
• Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and selling.
• Experience addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally.
• Experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.

Skills

• Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Point of Sale system and Apple devices).
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and adapt to ambiguous situations.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• The role cannot be held by a minor; candidates must be 18 years or older.

Working Conditions

• Continuous mobility throughout the store (twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, etc.).
• Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.

Pay range: $21.30 - $25.50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Eligible associates may earn overtime.
