Job Summary: As leader of our Grocery Night Crew team, this position is responsible for department restocking/recovery from the sales of each day, ensuring stocking and facing standards are achieved throughout the store. This position is also responsible for product management, food safety, quality control, work safety, merchandising, sales generation, gross margins, labor and general expense control, personnel development, customer service, and profitability within the department.
This position oversees all store operations in the absence of the Store Director team, Lead Customer Service Manager, and/or Customer Service Manager.
Essential Functions (include, but are not limited to the following):
I. Product Management- Develops and maintains product displays in order to create an exciting marketplace; strives to develop displays that pique customer interest and impact customer buying trends. Ensures all department merchandising is consistent with company guidelines, expectations, and approved merchandising plans.
- Effectively communicates with Grocery Manager regarding weekly Check stand and End Display Plan; adheres to the schematics provided, ensuring merchandising and display standards are achieved.
- At the direction of the Grocery Manager, ensures effective ordering of products for the Grocery Department, including Frozen and HABA items; maintains product inventory at a level that provides effective sales merchandising and maximizes sales potential.
- Minimizes loss of sales by promptly identifying and filling low product inventories and out-of-stocks.
- Demonstrates effective inventory control, thereby minimizing unnecessary cost associated with excessive inventory, including supplies.
- Ensures all mis-picks, damaged goods, and credits are processed and managed within established guidelines.
- Ensures receiving practices are followed according to company standards; alerts Grocery Manager to variances from vendor quoted or anticipated product cost and invoiced amount.
- Maintains Grocery Department area in a clean, organized, customer-friendly manner.
- Establishes and manages stocking standards that ensure high product quality, including rotation procedures. Incorporates cleaning with stocking and rotation requirements.
- Effectively plans for and performs physical inventory on a quarterly basis, or as needed.
- Determines daily projects and activities of department employees; ensures daily tasks and assignments are accomplished correctly and in a timely manner.
- In partnership with the Grocery Manager, writes Grocery Night Crew Department work schedule; effectively allocates labor to accomplish operational goals, best service customers, and achieve labor budget.
- Adheres to all food safety and sanitation requirements. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of HACCP and Department of Health provisions, shares knowledge with employees for the purpose of training.
- Adheres to an established supply budget; obtains spending approval from the Store Director team for expenses outside of normal parameters.
- Adheres to company guidelines regarding prevention of internal and external loss, including risk management, accident prevention/safety awareness, and loss prevention.
- Maintains sales floor, back room, walk-in coolers, and freezer in a safe, clean, and organized manner; stores products in a manner that allows easy access to back stock.
- Participates in Grocery Night Crew Department staff meetings and store staff meetings as required.
- Uses work-related equipment correctly under manufacturer guidelines.
- Oversees store operations and ensures standards are maintained in the absence of the Store Director team, Lead Customer Service Manager, and/or Customer Service Manager on duty.
- Effectively builds and maintains morale, provides motivation and feedback, fosters a cohesive, productive team of employees.
- Assumes primary responsibility for department employee relations, including employee training, performance appraisals, coaching, counseling, and corrective action.
- Leads by example; provides employees with clear expectations and timely feedback.
- Effectively delegates and follows-up with team members.
