Position: Business Development Officer (Outside)

Job Summary

Mechanics Bank is looking for a Business Development Officer (Outside) to join our team. This on‑site role plays a critical part in expanding the bank’s customer base by strategically targeting and acquiring new business customers.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Commercial Lending and Treasury Management sales to ensure seamless onboarding of new customers and exceptional service delivery.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential clients and sectors for expansion of the customer base.
  • Proactively identify and retain “at risk” customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses through networking, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
  • Participate in branch events/sponsor ships and engage with community groups and organizations.
  • Assess the financial needs of prospective and existing customers and recommend banking solutions that align with their business objectives.
  • Leverage advertising leads, internal customer lead lists, personal contacts, referrals from the Bank, internal business lines, and branch customer base to identify sales opportunities and deliver an outstanding customer experience.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to effectively position banking services.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of and competency with the Bank’s products, services, and business‑customer acquisition strategy.
  • Monitor personal weekly/monthly sales efforts, ensuring sales targets and results are achieved.
  • Travel 50-60%.
Qualifications
  • 4‑Year Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in banking, sales, or business development with a proven track record of acquiring business customers.
  • Strong understanding of business banking products and services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence decision‑makers.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset and problem‑solving ability.
  • Highly motivated and target‑driven with a proven ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $80,172‑$139,730 annually. AIP Bonus up to 7.5%.
